Despacito was first released by Puerto Rican singer Luis Fonsi in the year 2017 and was the most streamed song within six months. The mix of reggaeton with pop music did not just draw interest back to the music genre but also Latin music generally. The Billboard Top 100 featured two songs that were Spanish mostly, and four others in the year 2016. In 2017, during the peak of Despacito's fame the track was among 19 that mostly in Spanish were included in the Billboard Top 100. In 2020 the number will increase to 41 tracks in this category. Following the time that Justin Bieber released his bilingual remix of Despacito in the year 2017, a number of popular artists started to work with reggaeton artists. Drake and Bad Bunny collaborated for the track MIA MIA (2018) and Madonna and Maluma worked together on Medellin in the year 2019. In the year 2020, some Reggaeton musicians were expressing their displeasure with the trend of the genre toward mainstream. But, the younger generation, Rauw Alejandro, was keen to keep the trend going. The genre often incorporated elements from electronic dance music, and other genres.
